In January-July the sales totalled €4,946.5 million (excluding VAT), which is down by 13.7%. In the food trade, sales in July were €331.4 million, an increase of 2.5%. Sales to the K-food store chains were up 6.4%. In the home and speciality goods trade, sales in July were €127.6 million, nearly matching the previous year's level (-1.1%). The sales of K-citymarket's home and speciality goods and the sports goods sales increased. Home technology and furniture sales decreased over the previous year. In the building and home improvement trade, sales in July were €204.4 million, a decrease of 24.4%. Sales in Finland were down 23.3%, especially due to the decline in sales to business customers and the sales of agricultural supplies. Sales in foreign countries decreased by 25.2% in terms of euros and by 18.0% in terms of local currencies. In the Baltic countries, sales were down 37.9%. In Russia, sales dropped by 18.2% in terms of euros, and by 1.3% in terms of the local currency. In the car and machinery trade, VV-Auto's sales in July were €45.1 million, which is down by 39.8% compared with the previous year. In addition to the market downturn in the car trade, sales performance was affected by the car tax act which came into force in April, because of which car tax levied on cars after 1 April 2009 is not included in sales figures. In Finland, new registrations of passenger cars dropped by 38.7% in July. Konekesko's sales in July were €30.7 million, down 37.2%. Sales decreased by 11.7% in Finland and by 51.6% abroad. Change, % indicates the change over the corresponding period of the previous year. In July 2009, the number of selling days in Kesko's wholesale was 23, which is the same as in July 2008. The total number of selling days in January-July was three less than in the previous year. The number of retail selling days in July was 31, which is the same as in the previous year. The total number of retail selling days in January-July was four less than in the previous year.
