Vaisala receives its first weather radar orders
Vaisala has received its first weather radar orders. The orders
include a total of five dual-polarization radars, which carry Sigmet
signal processors and application software. When fully realized, the
total value of the radar orders is approximately EUR 4 million.
Deliveries will be carried out between November 2007 and June 2008.

The Vaisala Weather Radar will be officially introduced to the market
by the end of August this year.

Vaisala's first weather radar customer is the Estonian Meteorological
and Hydrological Institute, which has ordered two dual-polarization
radars. One of the radars will be located at the Harku weather
station in Tallinn, and the other in Sürgavere in the Viljandimaa
province. Both radars will be delivered in November 2007.
Another order, for three weather radars, was received from a
long-standing Vaisala customer. These radars will be delivered in the
beginning of 2008."We are very pleased that our first sales and marketing efforts have
resulted in such a successful opening. There is a clear demand for
the dual-polarization radar developed by Vaisala, which offers top
performance and leading technology", says Vaisala CEO Kjell Forsén.

Vaisala's weather radar has been developed in cooperation with
leading international research institutions and partners. New
technologies have been investigated thoroughly in the R&D process.
For example, the radar's dual-polarization technology enables more
precise information on the quantity and type of precipitation.
Weather radars are mostly used by national meteorological and
hydrological institutes.

The data produced by weather radars on the intensity and type of
precipitation and the movement of rain fronts is utilized for weather
forecasts and warnings. The Finnish Meteorological Institute,
University of Helsinki and Vaisala have had a prototype of the
Vaisala Weather Radar in research and test use from December 2004.

The new weather radar complements Vaisala's remote sensing product
offering, which currently includes cloud height measurement
instruments, lightning detection systems and networks as well as wind
profilers.
