Pohjola Bank plc to Issue Lower Tier 2 Subordinated Notes of CHF 100 million

Pohjola Bank plc will issue Lower Tier 2 subordinated notes of CHF 100 million
with a maturity of 10 years on or about 14 July 2011. An application will be
made for the notes to be admitted to trading on the SIX Swiss Exchange. The
terms and conditions do not allow any early redemption of the notes.

The notes will increase Pohjola Group's capital adequacy ratio (pro forma) by
0.6 percentage points, Tier 1 ratio by 0.2 percentage points and capital
adequacy under the Act on the Supervision of Financial and Insurance
Conglomerates by 0.06.

On 31 March 2011, Pohjola Group's capital adequacy ratio stood at 12.2%, Tier 1
ratio at 12.2% and capital adequacy under the Act on the Supervision of
Financial and Insurance Conglomerates at 1.58.
