Lithuania, Latvia and Sweden signed a Memorandum of Understanding on the NordBalt Electricity Link Project


On July 9, 2009, Lithuania, Latvia and Sweden signed a memorandum of
understanding concerning a non-commercial infrastructure project aimed at
linking the Baltic and Nordic electricity markets. The memorandum was signed by
the public institution Central Project Management Agency (CPMA), on behalf of
the consortium with Lietuvos Energija AB, Latvenergo (Latvia) and Svenska
Kraftnat (Sweden), seeking to establish the objective to implement the project. 

Due to be completed in spring 2016, the project aims at building an intersystem
link - a cable of approximately 350 km in length across the bottom of the
Baltic Sea, and converter stations to connect electric power transmission
systems of the Republic of Lithuania and the Kingdom of Sweden. A preliminary
total cost of the project is between EUR 516-738 million.
