Monthly traffic performance data - September 2011

In September 2011, Finnair traffic measured in Revenue Passenger Kilometres
rose by approximately 12% as the overall capacity grew by 14.7% compared with
September 2010. Finnair's Asian traffic capacity measured in Available Seat
Kilometres grew by 28.2% and traffic measured in Revenue Passenger Kilometres
increased by 19.5%, while the load factor declined by 5.6%.
“In September, the increase in traffic was lower than anticipated and business
travel from Europe has not developed according to our expectations after the
European holiday season. In Asian traffic load factors were lower than before,
which was reflected in unit revenues as well: in the third quarter, revenue per
available seat kilometre decreased by 3.2% compared with 2010. Load factors in
leisure traffic were still lower than what we pursued, even though they
improved slightly from the previous year,” says Finnair CFO Erno Hildén.
The capacity change in Finnair's leisure traffic results from the fact that
from the beginning of the summer season, some of the previous leisure flights
have been operated as scheduled services.
A corresponding traffic change can be seen as growth in the European and North
-American figures.
Cargo capacity grew by 26.1% and traffic by revenue tonne kilometres grew by
11.4% compared with September 2010.
In September, the arrival punctuality of Finnair flights improved in comparison
with the previous year: 90.9% (89.9%) of all flights arrived on schedule. In
scheduled traffic the arrival punctuality was 91.7% (90.5%).
