In January-October the sales totalled €7,112.0 million (excluding VAT), which is down by 13.4%. In the food trade, sales in October were €323.5 million, a decrease of 5.5%. Sales to the K-food store chains were down by 3.1%. The number of selling days in October 2009 was one less than in the previous year. In the home and speciality goods trade, sales in October were €139.3 million, an increase of 2.0%. The sales of clothing developed best. In the building and home improvement trade, sales in October were €201.4 million, a decrease of 22.5%. Sales in Finland were down by 24.6%, which can, above all, be attributed to the decrease in B-to-B sales and in the sales of agricultural supplies. In foreign countries, sales decreased by 20.8% in terms of euros, and by 17.5% in terms of local currencies. In the Baltic countries, sales were down by 42.6%. In Russia, sales dropped by 22.6% in terms of euros, and by 4.8% in terms of the local currency. In the car and machinery trade, VV-Auto's sales in October were €48.1 million, which is down by 33.6% compared with the previous year. In addition to the market downturn in the car trade, the sales performance was affected by the car tax act which came into force in April, because of which car tax levied on cars after 1 April 2009 is not included in sales figures. The share of passenger cars imported by VV-Auto out of new registrations was 18.5% (17.9%) in October. Konekesko's sales in October were €30.4 million, down by 39.8%. Sales decreased by 30.6% in Finland and by 45.2% in foreign countries as a result of the weakened machinery market and the downsizing of the Baltic agricultural trade. Change,% indicates the change over the corresponding period of the previous year. In October 2009, the number of selling days in Kesko's wholesale was 22, which is one less than in October 2008. The total number of selling days in January-October was four less than in the previous year. The number of retail selling days in October was 26, which is one less than in the previous year. The total number of retail selling days in January-October was five less than in the previous year.
