SCANFIL PLC'S SUBSIDIARY, SCANFIL EMS OY, REORGANISES ITS OPERATIONS IN SIEVI   

Scanfil plc's subsidiary, Scanfil EMS Oy, has today invited representatives of  
the Sievi electronics and mechanics plant and of various personnel groups from  
Group administration to statutory employer-employee negotiations due to         
production and financial reasons and business restructuring.                    

The negotiations will cover the possible merger of the mechanics and electronics
plants operating in Sievi and the partial concentration of electronics          
production in lower-cost countries. The aim of the planned measures is to lift  
the efficiency of operations, improve cost-efficiency and maintain the company's
competitiveness in the long term. According to a tentative estimate, the planned
measures will result in changes in the duties and operations of all personnel   
groups as well as in layoffs of approximately 100 workers, clerical employees,  
and professional and managerial staff.
