This electricity will be generated by Kaunas Hydroelectric Power Plant and supplied to retail customers, implementing social responsibility programs, by Energijos Tiekimas UAB. First agreements on supply of certified green Lithuanian electric energy were signed today with Gargždai-based pet food manufacturer Mars Lietuva and natural mineral water producer Druskininkų Rasa. Company's subsidiary Energijos Tiekimas UAB will present the new product on the retail market. A survey carried out at the end of last year by the largest independent Lithuanian-controlled electric energy supplier Energijos Tiekimas UAB showed that of 500 surveyed Lithuanian companies as much as 72% were especially concerned about the issues of environmental protection and ecology in their everyday operations. Most of the surveyed companies said they would consider the possibility of buying electric energy generated from renewable sources and a fifth of them would agree to pay a higher price for such electric energy. Green Lithuanian energy is generated by Company-controlled Kaunas Hydroelectric Power Plant (KHPP). Last year more than a third or 385.8 million kWh (0.38 TWh) of the total electric energy produced from renewable sources in Lithuania was generated by KHPP. A total of 1097 million kWh (1.09 TWh) of green electric energy was generated in Lithuania in 2011. KHPP met 4% of Lithuania's electric energy needs. It is estimated that this amount is able to meet the annual electricity needs of Kaunas city and region and Šiauliai city. Two companies, Mars Lietuva and Druskininkų Rasa that showed the keenest desire to promote the use of green energy in Lithuania were offered by Energijos Tiekimas to be supplied with 100% of their energy needs.
