M-real prepares for lower demand and starts statutory negotiations in Finland

M-real Corporation Stock Exchange Release 8 January 2009

M-real Corporation, part of Metsäliitto Group, starts statutory
negotiations concerning mill operations in Finland. Possible actions
will be decided locally at the units. All in all, the negotiations
concern about 1,500 people.

The target of the negotiations is to prepare the production
temporarily for lower demand by temporary lay offs and working time
arrangements. This is thus an anticipatory measure if no significant
improvement in the demand situation experienced in late 2008 emerges.
