PÖYRY AWARDED EUR 7 MILLION ASSIGNMENT FOR MELAMCHI WATER SUPPLY
PROJECT IN NEPAL

Pöyry together with its consortium partners has been awarded a
consultancy contract by the Melamchi Water Supply Development Board,
Nepal, comprising design and construction supervision services for
the headworks and a 26.5 km long diversion tunnel. Pöyry's share of
the contract value is about EUR 7 million.

This USD 350 million project is essential for Kathmandu's 1.5 million
residents, most of whom receive tapped water for only a couple of
hours a day. Many people rely on alternative water sources such as
shallow wells, public taps, rainwater, tankers or bottled water.

The biggest civil works package under the project is the 26.5 km
water diversion tunnel. The tunnel will divert 170 million litres of
water daily from the Melamchi River to Kathmandu Valley to ease
chronic water shortages in that area. Construction of the water
tunnel will start by beginning of 2009 and should be completed by
2013.

The Melamchi project is funded by loans from the Asian Development
Bank and the Nordic Development Fund. Other donors are the Japan Bank
for International Cooperation, the Japan International Cooperation
Agency, the Nordic Development Fund and the Organization of Petroleum
Exporting Countries Fund for International Development. The
Government of Nepal is contributing USD 90 million.

The order will not be included in Pöyry's order stock as at 30 June
2008 in the Interim Report to be published in July.
