Pohjola Bank plc to Strengthen Its Capital Base with Lower Tier 2 Issue         

On 25 March 2008, Pohjola Bank plc will launch an issue of EUR 170 million in   
Lower Tier 2 subordinated notes with a maturity of ten years. An application    
will be made for the notes to be admitted to trading on the London Stock        
Exchange.                                                                       

With the Finnish Financial Supervision Authority's permission, the issuer has   
the right to redeem the notes prematurely in March 2013.
