The transmission grid development plan includes infrastructure projects up to 2022

Vilnius, Lithuania, 2013-10-09 12:57 CEST (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- On 10 October
2013, electricity transmission system operator Litgrid will present its
ten-year grid development plan, prepared and up-dated on an annual basis. The
goal of this presentation is to give a more detailed account of the key grid
development projects for 2013-2022, to listen to issues raised by the public
and businesses, and to take said into account where possible. "The projects of electricity infrastructure are large-scale and of considerable
importance to all members of the society, business and public. The
interconnectors that are being built will ensure best use of advantages of a
big electricity market, whereas development of the national transmission grid
is important to future plans of local business and foreign investors. The
electricity infrastructure is of vital important to all players in the economic
structure, therefore we see it necessary to inform about its development
properly", says Daivis Virbickas, TSO Litgrid CEO and Chairman of the Board.

A unique feature of the plan prepared this year is that a number of various
possible scenarios for the development of the national energy system have been
analysed and presented. Different assumptions are made and analysed: with
Visaginas Nuclear Power Plant integrated into the system and without it, when
Lithuania's electricity system functions in different synchronous zones, if the
situation remains as is, with all the interconnection projects completed. "The estimated investment of more than 3 billion litas can be carried out over
the coming ten years. This is a huge input into the economic welfare of the
country as well as a real opportunity for businesses to earn money", says Mr
Virbickas.

The plan of how the country's energy sector will change over the next ten years
is prepared by forecasting the demand and production of electricity, modelling
the situation in the electricity market, evaluating various transmission grid
development projects and the future transmission grid model, and calculating
and substantiating necessary investments. Every year, the updated plan is
submitted to the National Control Commission for Prices and Energy, presented
to the public and discussed with various stakeholders.

The plan for 2013-2022 includes 400 kV, 330 kV and 110 kV transmission lines,
submarine power cable in the Baltic Sea, new transformer substations. The key
strategic power projects - the NordBalt interconnection with Sweden and the
LitPol Link electricity link with Poland - are planned to be completed by the
end of 2015.

A complete map of the 2013-2022 Lithuanian power system will be presented at
12:00 tomorrow, October 10th, during a seminar which will be held at the
Radisson Blue Hotel (Konstitucijos pr.20) conference centre. Registration for
the event can be done via e-mail: info@litgrid.eu.The plan will also be
