Overall capacity was close to flat year-on-year and passenger load factor improved by 2.4 per cent. Asian traffic capacity measured in Available Seat Kilometres grew by 2.9 per cent and traffic measured in Revenue Passenger Kilometres increased by 5.1 per cent. “For all traffic, passenger load factor improved considerably due to successful capacity planning, pricing campaign and new domestic and Nordic pricing categories. Capacity in Asian traffic was scaled back around Chinese New Year when the Asian travel demand to Europe is low. Passenger load factors improved notably in domestic and European traffic: Passenger load factor in domestic traffic improved by almost 10 per cent and in Europe by over 7 per cent. The load factor in leisure traffic was 89.6 per cent, which declined year on year due to overcapacity in the package tour market in Finland ,” says Finnair CFO Erno Hildén. In cargo, available tonne kilometres grew by 9.8 per cent and revenue tonne kilometres by 9.3 per cent year on year, while the load factor in cargo was flat. The amount of cargo and mail carried grew by 8.1 per cent. The arrival punctuality in January was 69.7 per cent (71.1 per cent). In scheduled traffic, 70.5 per cent (73.1 per cent) of flights arrived on schedule. Winter circumstances restricted the use of capacity in Helsinki-Vantaa airport, which impaired Finnair's arrival punctuality.
