SAMPO APPLIES FOR A LICENSE TO EXCEED 10 PER CENT IN NORDEA                     

Sampo plc has today submitted an application to the Swedish Financial           
Supervisory Authority for a license to increase its holding in Nordea Bank AB   
(publ) above 10 per cent.                                                       

On 14 December 2007 Sampo Group held 9.36 per cent of the shares of Nordea Bank 
AB (publ).
