SALCOMP INTRODUCES THE FIRST LITERALLY ZERO-STAND-BY POWER CHARGERS             

Salcomp has introduced a new Twist charger platform. Chargers manufactured      
according to this platform are suitable for mobile phones, navigators, digital  
cameras, Bluetooth head sets, media players and other electronic devices.       

”Twist chargers are the first chargers in the market in which the stand-by      
consumption is literally zero. Salcomp has developed an innovative solution in  
which the plugged-in charger can be set in zero-stand-by mode, meaning that no  
electric energy is consumed, by twisting the charger against the plug. The      
charger can thus be switched off in the stand-by mode and again switched on when
charging is needed,” says Markku Hangasjärvi, President and CEO at Salcomp.     

Normally, chargers consume electric energy whenever plugged in, even when       
chargers are not charging any device. By decreasing this stand-by consumption,  
the electricity use of households can be reduced significantly; according to    
some estimates, even by over 10% of the total household electricity consumption,
when the electric energy consumption of all home electronic devices in stand-by 
mode are included.                                                              

”In addition to cost-effective manufacturing, eco-friendliness has been one of  
our most important long-term targets, contributed considerably by low stand-by  
power, energy-efficiency in charging mode and a small charger size. The Twist   
product platform is part of Salcomp's continuous environment awareness in R&D,” 
says Juha Raussi, Corporate Vice President, R&D.                                

The output power in the USB-compatible Twist chargers is 5 watts. Twist chargers
are also available in the so-called multiplug version in which country models   
are replaced by interchangeable mains plugs. The mains plug can be easily       
changed without tools, and this enables the use of the same charger in different
countries. In addition to energy savings, one of the advantages of the Twist    
multiplug charger is the clearly smaller charger size, compared with the other  
multiplug platforms in the market.
