The District Court of Helsinki has rejected the claims of Metsähallitus (Finnish Forest and Parks Service) in the raw wood case

On 22.6.2016 the District Court of Helsinki rendered its judgment in a case in
which Metsähallitus claims damages from Metsäliitto Cooperative, Stora Enso Oyj
and UPM-Kymmene Corporation. In its judgment the District Court rejected the
claims made by Metsähallitus and ordered Metsähallitus to compensate the
defendants’ legal costs. 

The total amount of the joint and several claim for damages made by
Metsähallitus in the District Court is 159.4 million euros. Metsäliitto
Cooperative’s share of the capital of the claimed damages is 49.5 million
euros. In addition to damages Metsähallitus claimed compensation for indirect
damages and interests and the legal costs of Metsähallitus. 

In its judgment the District Court found that the defendants’ conduct on the
raw wood market in Finland during 1997–2004 has not caused damage to
Metsähallitus. 

The judgment of the District Court of Helsinki is not final.
