FIRE DESTROYED LESTIJÄRVI FACTORY OF RUUKKI GROUP'S FURNITURE BUSINESS TO A MAJOR EXTENT

There has been a fire at the Lestijärvi factory, situated in the Central        
Ostrobothnia area. The factory belongs to Ruukki Group's furniture business     
(Incap Furniture), and more specifically to its subsidiary Hirviset Oy, The fire
has destroyed a major part of the Lestijärvi factory premises and machinery.    
When the fire started there were employees working at the site, but nobody was  
hurt in the incident. The factory employs a total of 70 persons.                

It is estimated that the total damages will be in the range of EUR 7 - 8        
million. Insurance for both the damaged assets and discontinued operations will 
cover most of the direct damages. Due to the fire Ruukki Group's consolidated   
revenue will be somewhat lower than originally expected. It is estimated that   
the incident will not have material effect on the group's operative income.
